Ironmen, 70.3ers, volunteering, and parties!

The Texas State Tri Club has been busy!

New Ironmen!
Daniel Chidester and Adrien Thom are now IRONMEN!

In case you weren't aware, an ironman consists of:

2.4 mile swim
112 mile bike
26.2 mile run

Results:

Daniel Chidester
13:42:57
28th in the Men's 18-24 Age Group

Adrien Thom
14:17:40
72nd in the Women's 30-34 Age Group

Imagine... 14 hours and 140 miles of swim/bike/run! CRAZY!

Daniel and Adrien had been training relentlessly for this race and it all paid off in the end. Held in Panama City Beach, Florida (http://www.ironmanflorida.com/) they roughed through the treacherous miles and came out Ironmen.

Considered the pinnacle of tri-events, the ironman defines the endurance athlete. Congratulate these warriors if you get a chance!

Results:

Finishers of the Longhorn 70.3 Half-Iron!

The Longhorn 70.3 race is held in Austin, Texas - it is a challenging endurance event that may members of our team made look like child's play. They tackled it head on after constant training and represented the team in style.

Cole Parker - 1st Half Iron!
Eddie Lomeli - 1st Half Iron!
Mike Quiroz - Beat his time for last year by an hour and a half!
James Waterman - A veteran in the sport of triathlon!
Chelsea Tiner - Stud triathlete!

Results:

Volunteering at the Longhorn 70.3 Half-Iron

The Triathlon Club was able to cheer on participants in the Half Iron and also help volunteer at the race!

With a good group of hard working members making the early morning trip (about 4am...) we were able to volunteer in the race with tasks ranging from body markings to transition bag organization!

It was hard work, but the team kept their spirits up and learned a lot! This opportunity gave us serious insight into how to run a successful race - now we can apply those lessons to the Texas Sprint Tri in the Spring!

End of the season party at Adrien's!

Well now that the Fall 2009 semester is coming to a close, the team thought it appropriate to get together to celebrate the numerous accomplishments of the team this year!

Our multi-talented and ever wise swim coach and team resource, Adrien was SO kind to volunteer her beautiful home for us to get together!

We were served a feast of stuffed chicken, spaghetti with homemade pasta sauce, mole, rice, french bread, macaroni, cheesecake, cookies... (and pancakes :) to name a few...

With a superb meal, friendly company, and great conversation- the night was a true success.

Until next semester!
Happy Holidays from the Texas State Triathlon Club!

TX TRI Results!

The TX TRI at Canyon Lake!

We arrived early Saturday to a course that was wet, and weather that was cloudy and humid. With a slight chill in the air, the team made there way to the start after preparing our transition area and setting up the Texas State Triathlon tent.

The water was chilly but not unbearable. Canyon Lake just made the temperature cut off for a wetsuit legal swim so the team was covered in neoprene. Due to the low water level, the course ended up being two
loops around buoys before going in. The team felt good in the water thanks to excellent coaching provided by Adrien.

The bike was a different story for the team. While the course was wet, windy, and hilly, the biggest issue was the road condition. 4 team members suffered multiple flats throughout the course and 3 had to end early. The biggest issue with flats came from the recent chip sealant that was applied to the roads in the not too distant past. This caused numerous participants in the TX TRI to drop out, but such is life.

Those that made it through the bike alive were able to conquer the two loop run. With the weather clearing up, the run was nice for most.

Below are the results minus those that were casualties of the road. [Mike Q, Javier R, Neal L]
